Genetic diversity and phylogenetic analysis in Asian and European Asparagus subgenus species

Abstract Garden asparagus ( Asparagus officinalis L.) is a diploid (2n = 2x 20), perennial and dioecious species belonging to subgenus worldwide cultivated as vegetable crop. A narrow genetic base has been pointed out for the current cultivars. Crop wild related (CWR) could be valuable resource in this crop but they have underused up now. To investigate phylogenetic relationships between CWR from different origin A. L., 12 EST-SSR markers were used assess variability of 20 accessions. These accessions belong 10 spp. including naturalized L. (2x, 4x, 8x, 10x) with European tenuifolius Lam. (2x), pseudoscaber Grec. (6x), macrorrhizus Pedrol & al. (12x) , prostratus Dumort (4x), brachyphyllus Turcz. maritimus (L.) Mill. (6x)) Asian distribution verticillatus (2x) persicus Baker breslerianus Schult. (8x)). albus Protasparagus was outgroup. As result, total 248 alleles obtained specific detected among them. After cluster analysis did not group by their geographical origin. All polyploid distributions grouped together Hence, that considered ‘ group’ suggesting monophyletic The clustered most genetically distant respect group’. results study may provide useful information design new crosses aimed develop germplasm or pre-breeding populations.
